Comprehensive orders for staying at home to curb the spread of the novel corona virus mean that consumers are flooding food delivery apps to flip through digital catalogs of supermarket goods and store their kitchens without ever leaving home .
In order to meet the increasing demand, the app companies are in the setting mode. Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Instacart announced The company is hiring 300,000 new employees on behalf of its customers to brave grocery stores across the country.
"As more and more people are looking for immediate, flexible earning opportunities during this time, we hope that Instacart can be an additional source of income," said Mehta.
Shipt, another grocery delivery service, also hires thousands of buyers.
Instacart wants to attract full-service customers who buy the items in the store and then deliver them. Instacart does not offer a guaranteed hourly rate. The payment fluctuates per order and is largely dependent on tips that the employees keep 100%. Buyers are independent contractors, also known as gig workers.
The food delivery app is available in approximately 5,500 cities in North America. The full service appearances are available in all 50 states.
Instacart is one of several large companies that are currently hiring en masse. We have more than counted 747,000 job offers in the service industry during the coronavirus outbreak.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have the following:
Eligibility to Work in the United States
Consistent access to an insured vehicle
A reliable smartphone (iPhone 5 or Android 4.4 or newer)
The ability to lift 50 pounds
Applications can be accessed on Instacart website and further iOS and Android Versions of the app.
The outbreak of the coronavirus prompted Instacart to announce temporary measures to protect its workforce. The company grants 14 days of paid sick leave if an employee or independent contractor is diagnosed with COVID-19 and / or instructed to isolate themselves by a doctor. The employee must have been employed for at least 30 days.
Instacart also said it will deliver cleaning products to buyers and recommends that they adhere to certain ones Health and safety guidelines. Customers have the option to request contactless deliveries using the new "Leave it at my door" function.
So far, deliverers have no access to this function.
